And the Analogue film Lab
Mount Studio is an independent artist-run space founded in 2022 in Mount Lavinia, Sri Lanka.
It began as a hub for photography, printmaking, and collaboration, bringing together artists, learners, and makers. Today, it has grown into a creative studio and analogue film lab, supporting both experimental and documentary practices.
Mount Studio is also home to the Batticaloa Photo-History Archive and various education initiatives, exhibitions, and commissioned work led by artist and founder Lojithan Ram.

Analogue Future is a community-led fundraising initiative organised by Mount Studio to support the growth and sustainability of Sri Lanka’s only artist-led analogue film lab and darkroom space.
This fundraiser brings together 63 analogue photographs by 23 film photographers from 10 countries, all generously contributed in support of keeping film photography alive, accessible, and shared.
In a time when most images live briefly on screens, printed photographs hold memory, labour, and time. By purchasing a print, you are not only acquiring a photographic work — you are directly contributing to the tools, space, and community that make analogue practice possible.
Funds raised through this print sale will support:
Purchasing essential darkroom and lab equipment
Film, chemistry, and archival materials
Printing and exhibition costs
Community workshops, learning sessions, and open lab access
Sustaining Mount Studio as a shared resource for photographers, artists, and students
This is not a commercial venture. It is a collective effort to build infrastructure for analogue photography in Sri Lanka.
All works are analogue photographs
Limited editions of 5 per image

Mount Studio invites you to step into a living archive with the Vintage Photo-Studio Experience, a one-day immersive portrait session using analogue film cameras, traditional studio lighting, and classic backdrops.
Inspired by early 1900s studio practices, this experience offers visitors the chance to have their portraits made slowly and intentionally—on film, using time-honoured techniques that prioritise craft, presence, and memory.
Participants are encouraged to dress in vintage or period-inspired clothing to fully enter the experience. Each portrait is carefully developed and printed, preserving the tactile beauty of analogue photography.
This experience forms part of the Analogue Future Fundraiser, supporting the continuation of film-based practices and community-driven photographic spaces in Sri Lanka.

Opening: August 17, 2025. Mount Studio
Mount Studio—an incubator for experimental and reflective artistic practice—proudly presents the humble opening of its Analogue Film Developing Darkroom Lab, a dedicated space for hands-on photographic exploration, located within the creative environment of the Eastman Atelier.
Founded by artist and photographer Lojithan Ram, Mount Studio is a multi-functional art space, home to a working artist’s studio and personal archiving museum. While it once hosted a wide range of art programs, Mount Studio now focuses exclusively on photography and vintage printmaking workshops, held both in the studio and at external venues.
This new darkroom is more than a technical facility—it exists within the living energy of the artist’s studio, where artistic processes unfold daily. It’s a space where film photography is not just revived but deeply lived, offering a slower, more intentional approach to image-making.
Whether you are an experienced photographer or a curious beginner, this darkroom welcomes you to engage with analogue methods at your own pace.

This intimate lab invites a community of artists, photographers, and film lovers to gather, learn, and create together. It is both a celebration of the past and a bold step into the evolving narrative of analogue photography in Sri Lanka.
An archiving project - documenting my mother’s journey as a poet from the age of 16 to 70. This project brings together photographs from our family album and my recent works, weaving a visual narrative that echoes the stories within her poetry.
Since 2024, I have been gradually digitising the thousands of poems she wrote in notebooks, alongside scanning family photographs, preserving them in a digital format. These materials will eventually come together in an artist’s publication—a dedicated tribute to my mother’s lifelong poetic journey. I hope to secure patronage in the future to bring this publication to life.
As part of this exploration, I am experimenting with different media to interpret and narrate this concept using the materials available. This one-minute video was created as an experimental piece for the Countdown 1-Minute Film Night at Barefoot Gallery, Colombo, Sri Lanka.
